November shows, love the anticipation
Looking forward to putting that work out there this month. Both wood fired and oxidation work has a place. November is the month for shows, the FACETS show at Radisson Cross Keys on the 19th and 20th, with help from a friend and on the 19th I will be at the Finnish Holiday Bazaar at the River Road Unitarian Church, Bethesda, love that the Ambassador of Finland opens the event with a ribbon cutting!
American Visionary Museum hosts BAZAART , lucky to be juried in this year, preview on Friday night the 25th and Saturday the 26th.

Pine motif
A few years ago I made some whimsical work with the texture of pine. When I was growing up in northern Minnesota, many decorative items were cobbled out of wood. Like, my grandpa made a decorative gate from tree stumps and a great table with a knarly stump as the base. So here goes....some garden furniture, faux pine.

Working, working on new work, new solutions for surfaces. I have been testing terra sigillata on items fired at cone 6 and it seems that that has many possibilities for my work. Thank you to all those who have generously posted recipes and information on terra sig.
In addition, the idea of painting on fired surfaces has caught my interest. One artist in particular has wonderful solutions. Lidya Buzio, is such an inspiration. Wondering if glazing is really what I am after.
Multi-tasking as usual, I have mixed a batch of Otto Heino Million Dollar Yellow and hope to test that soon........

Two Books
Two books which have enriched my life lately, Patti Smith's, Just Kids and Jonathan Spence's Mao Zedong.
First, could not put down Just Kids, about Patti and Maplethorpe's young life in NYC. What a read!
Now, a good review of what happened in China (Mao Zedong), flowing well written event filled from the 19 teens to , well, the 1950's so far. What an affirmation and review of what I once knew and shocking to read the destruction of art. Narcissism rules with a leader again, as his power evolves.
